WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO VOLUNTEER?
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER?
The first step to get started volunteering is filling out an application. Once you submit the application you will be directed to a list of next steps and orientation dates available. At the orientation you will learn more about our organization and volunteer opportunities. The Volunteer Service Specialist will also be able to answer any questions you have at that time.
Here is a list of steps to expect:
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO VOLUNTEER?
The minimum age to volunteer is 16.
WHY DO WE HAVE TO UNDERGO A BACKGROUND CHECK?
Background checks help make the volunteer environment and experience a safe one for everyone involved.
DO YOU OFFER PHLEBOTOMY TRAINING?
Vitalant does not offer a phlebotomy training program for volunteers or accept phlebotomy volunteers. Volunteers are not allowed to perform regulated tasks, but if you are looking for employment, you can view open positions here: Vitalant - Vitalant Careers Apply Today!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU OFFER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES?
Vitalant offers volunteer opportunities 7 days a week; mornings, afternoons, and evenings.
DO YOU OFFER GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES?
The majority of our volunteer opportunities are individual opportunities but hosting a blood drive is a great way to get your group together and make a huge impact by saving lives. Find out more and how to sign up at: Host a Blood Drive
DO YOU HAVE A PROGRAM FOR COURT-ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS?
We do not accept court-ordered volunteer requests. Please visit www.VolunteerMatch.com to search for other volunteer opportunities in your area.
DO YOU PROVIDE TRAINING TO VOLUNTEERS?
All volunteers will receive training specific to the volunteer opportunities for which they sign up.
DO I HAVE TO DONATE BLOOD TO BE A VOLUNTEER?
We understand that not everyone is willing or able to donate blood but that doesn’t mean they can’t help their community by volunteering with Vitalant. Donating blood is not a requirement for volunteering with Vitalant. We encourage everyone who is able to donate blood to do so and many of our blood donors are volunteers as well.
DO I HAVE TO WORK DIRECTLY WITH THE BLOOD OR NEEDLES WHEN I VOLUNTEER?
Directly handling blood products and drawing blood from donors is the responsibility of our staff and is not something our volunteers are allowed to do.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE FOR VOLUNTEERS?
As a volunteer, you are often the community’s first introduction to Vitalant. We ask that all volunteers always present themselves in a neat, appropriate, business-like manner and wear closed-toe shoes.
WHAT DO I DO IF I’M LOCKED OUT OF MY VOLUNTEER ACCOUNT?
Please contact your Volunteer Specialist directly or the Volunteer Services Department at Volunteer@Vitalant.org
